New Certificate for Professional Nannies at LIU Post

Smiling Nanny with toddler on her backAs a nanny or babysitter, you play a crucial role in a child’s development. Now you can earn the educational credentials as a professional nanny through LIU Post’s University Au Pair Program. This spring, LIU will offer the Child Care Provider Certificate, which can be completed in one weekend.

“Ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of infants and children is a major responsibility requiring skills in maturity, child-centric development and emergency response training,” said Anne Schubeck, director of LIU’s University Au PAIR program. “Our intensive weekend program provides both future and current nannies with the skills to provide a supportive, loving and safe environment for children and parents.”

The program focuses on children’s cognitive and social development, family systems, behavior modifications, nutrition and healthy living, play activity, and recreation. Students will also be certified in first aid and CPR for infants and children.

The program will be offered May 16-18, 2014 on Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All classes will be led by experienced childcare providers and include case studies, role-playing, creative activities and training in safety and emergency response.

Upon successful completion of studies, students earn a Child Care Provider Certificate and New York State certification in CPR and First-Aid.

The cost for the weekend program is $365 and includes six meals. Housing is available for an additional fee.
