Teacher Certification Tests

In order to be certified to teach in New York State, all students pursuing a teacher education degree must participate in three workshops: the School Violence Prevention and Intervention Workshop (Project S.A.V.E.), the Child Abuse Identification Workshop and the Dignity for All Students Act. These workshops should be taken within your last two semesters of your degree program.   • The School Violence Prevention and Intervention Workshop (Project S.A.V.E.) is a New York State-approved two-hour course that covers the warning signs, classroom management techniques, referral process, statutes and regulations regarding school violence prevention and intervention. Course fee: $35, 2 hours. SCHEDULE
  • The Child Abuse Identification Workshop is a New York State approved two-hour course that will provide health professionals and school personnel with the information and documentation necessary to fulfill licensure application requirements as mandated by the New York State Education Department. Course content will include: identification of child and adolescent abuse; reporting procedures for child abuse and maltreatment; and resources for referral and treatment. Course fee: $35, 2 hours.   • “Dignity for All Students Act” (DASA) Workshop
    The State Legislature and the New York State Department of Education have passed new regulations “Dignity for All Students Act” requiring that every candidate for certification after December 31, 2013 must receive training designed to fulfill the Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination Prevention Intervention training. This requirement consists of a 6 hour workshop. We have designed the training programs with six hour, face to face workshops. Course fee: $90, six hours

Because these classes fill quickly, you must pre-pay in order to hold your spot.  To register by phone, call 516-299-4001, and provide a credit card number (VISA, MasterCard, Amex, or Discover), or mail in your  check for the appropriate amount to School of Continuing Education, Lorber Hall, Room 102, LIU Post, 720 Northern Blvd., Brookville, NY  11548-1300.  You may also pay in person at Room 102 Lorber Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.   Call the general Continuing Education numbers at 516-299-2236 or 516-299-3375 if you need further information or directions to the Lorber Hall building.
