CHEMISTRY

Department of Chemistry

Welcome to the Chemistry Department, which uniquely combines the personalized mentoring of a small college with the expertise of a modern research university.

Our full-time faculty, all holding doctoral degrees in chemistry, teach undergraduate core courses and an array of advanced classes and programs, providing our students with experience in all fields of modern chemistry and enthusiastically engaging them in research.

We take pride in the fact that our graduates find employment in pharmaceutical and chemical companies and school districts soon after graduation, or continue their education toward the M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry in the finest graduate schools, including Ivy League universities. Many of our alumni also enroll in medical school. Our programs are approved by the American Chemical Society.

Students conduct research and hands-on examinations of evidence in our Forensic Laboratory—which replicates the facilities and equipment you’ll encounter when employed in a Police Department crime lab or Medical Examiner’s office. Find Out.

B.S. or B.A.?

Majoring in Chemistry opens doors to a wide range of rewarding careers. If you are interested in working in a lab environment (say, pharmaceutical or household product developer or forensic scientist) you might consider the bachelor of science program. If you want to be a teacher or pursue an advanced degree in medicine, a bachelor of arts is a strong foundation.
