Department of Physics
Physicists play a critical role in applying the principles of matter and energy to solve scientific problems and make beneficial contributions to society. They work on local, national and global levels within the fields of nuclear energy, space exploration, medical research and electronics.
As a student in the Department of Physics, you will receive individualized support from a network of professors who are experts in the areas of numerical astrophysics, holography, lasers and black holes. The department offers a variety of courses, including optics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism. There are internship opportunities at local businesses and organizations, including the world-renowned cancer research center Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
