Department of Biomedical Science
The Department of Biomedical Science offers accredited bachelor’s and master’s degrees that prepare competent and knowledgeable professionals dedicated to the highest standards of science and health care.
The Department has Bachelor of Science degrees in Clinical Laboratory Science, Generalist (NAACLS* accredited); Biomedical Technology; and Forensic Science (co-sponsored by the LIU Post Departments of Biomedical Science and Chemistry).
Graduate programs include the M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences in which students will be eligible to sit for the certification exam and acquire NY State licensure; this is required for employment in a clinical laboratory; the M.S. in Medical Biology with specializations in Hematology, Immunology, Medical Chemistry and Medical Microbiology; the M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Management, which integrates technological and administrative courses to prepare graduates for management careers in the clinical laboratory setting; and the M.S. in Cardiovascular Perfusion, which is accredited by CAAHEP in conjunction with the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
The Department of Biomedical Science integrates didactic courses taught at the University with simulated laboratories along with clinical courses taught at an approved clinical affiliate laboratory. Through each degree program option, university-based courses are reinforced in the professional laboratory setting. In all degree programs, students are exposed to state-of-the-art instrumentation and are educated by highly qualified faculty to become laboratory professionals with comprehensive skills in specialty areas of laboratory science.
