Biomedical Sciences


The Department of Biomedical Science offers programs that combine biology and medicine in order to prepare professionals for advancement in the important fields of laboratory work, clinical research, and health care.

The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biomedical Technology and Clinical Laboratory Science, Generalist (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited).

Graduate programs include the M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences in which qualified students will be eligible to take for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification exam and acquire NY State licensure that is required for employment in a clinical laboratory; the M.S. in Biomedical Sciences with specializations in Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, Medical & Molecular Immunology, Applied Laboratory Medicine (a combination of the former Hematology & Medical Chemistry concentrations), and Cancer Biology; and the M.S. in Cardiovascular Perfusion, which is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in conjunction with the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
