The department houses the Health Information Management Program and the Medical Imaging Program as well as the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences.
Health Information Management
offers the Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate both accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The field of Health Information Management plays an important role in the planning, design, implementation, management, use and evaluation of information systems and electronic health records. Health information administrators are the specialists who secure, analyze, integrate, maintain and provide reliable and accurate information the steers the healthcare industry.
Medical Imaging at LIU Post has been a provider of education in diagnostic imaging since 1973 and offers the entry-level baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Technology. Radiologic technologists operate x-ray and digital imaging machines — important diagnostic tests that help doctors detect and treat illness and injury. The Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences provides students with a major which enables progression toward professional degree programs (i.e., athletic training, occupational therapy, physician assistant, physical therapy) while complementing the typical pre-requisite coursework within a balanced plan of study. Students in the BSHS will receive a strong science core foundation that will allow them to complete the prerequisite course work for application to post-baccalaureate professional programs. The major objective of the program is to provide the framework for students who traditionally are undecided for their undergraduate major but are clear in their plans to enter a health care professional career.
