Student Scholarship Award
Eileen, who resides in East Meadow, N.Y., is a part-time student in the program with an expected graduation dare of May 2015. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from University of Phoenix.
Eileen's personal life experiences have fueled her passion to pursue a career that was emotionally fulfilling and would benefit the lives of others. Eileen felt social work was her calling and is passionate about client advocacy. To Eileen, becoming a social worker means dedicating one's life to making a difference in the lives of others and having the power to educate and advocate with and on behalf of vulnerable populations.
Eileen has a strong interest in substance abuse prevention and intervention among members of the Latino community and other populations-at-risk.
In October 2013, Eileen was the scholarship recipient of the National Association of Puerto Rican Hispanic Social Workers and in 2014, she was an election candidate to be a student representative for the National Association of Social Workers New York State Chapter. Eileen is member of the M.S.W. Graduate Student Association where she engages in community service activities with her colleagues and in the fall 2014, she will take a new role as a co-student liaison between the National Association of Social Workers, Nassau County Division and LIU Post to help work on two new programs.
Eileen also participates in community service activities off campus, specifically The Big Brothers Big Sisters or Long Island, where she volunteers as a Big Sister to a "Little" Brother.
