Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
Transfer students who have completed more than 24 college credits are reviewed on the basis of their college work. A minimum college G.P.A. of 2.0 is required for application review. Students who have completed fewer than 24 credits, must also submit high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores. Transfer applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Some majors require higher G.P.A.s and additional admissions requirements. For more information, see the "Additional Departmental Admission Requirements" section below.
Transfer students seeking admission to LIU Post must be in good academic standings at their previous institution and should submit the following materials:
- Completed application for admission
- Official transcripts of all prior college work
- Official high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores for students who have completed fewer than 24 college credits. (note: Average SAT: Math & Critical Reading combined: 1000 or ACT Composite: 20)
- Tests results from the SAT or ACT (If you would like to have your ACT or SAT scores sent directly to LIU Post, you should use the following school codes when registering for the test: ACT - 2687; SAT – 2070)
- $40 non-refundable application fee
- Personal statement/essay (for students who have completed fewer than 24 college credits)

The following majors have additional admission requirements:
Art Department
Art History and Theory: Transfer students applying to the B.A. in Art History and Theory are required to participate in an interview with the program director. Visit the Art Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Art Therapy: Transfer students applying for the B.F.A. in Art Therapy are required to participate in a portfolio review and interview with the program director. Visit the Art Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Digital Arts and Design: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A. in Digital Arts and Design are required to participate in a portfolio review and interview with the program director. Visit the Art Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Photography: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A. in Photography are required to participate in a portfolio review and interview with the program director. Visit the Art Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Media Arts Department
Electronic Media (Broadcasting): Transfer Students applying to the B.F.A. in Electronic Media must complete a Competency Assessment consisting of a brief inventory of the student's grammar, spelling, reading comprehension and written expression. Journalism: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A. in Journalism must complete a competency assessment consisting of a brief inventory of the student's grammar, spelling, reading comprehension and written expression. Public Relations: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A. in Public Relations must complete a competency assessment consisting of a brief inventory of the student's grammar, spelling, reading comprehension and written expression. Music Department
Music: Transfer students applying to the Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Music must participate in an audition and take a placement test. Visit the Music Department Web site for specific information about the audition and testing process.
Theatre, Film, Dance & Arts Management Department
Arts Management: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A in Arts Management are admitted into the program by an interview with the program director and identification of a specific area of interest (theatre, dance, music, or visual art.) Dance: Transfer students applying for the B.F.A in Dance Studies are required to audition. Visit the Theatre, Film, Dance & Arts Management Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Film: Transfer students applying to the B.F.A. in Film are required to participate in an interview with the program director. Visit the Theatre, Film, Dance & Arts Management Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Theatre: Transfer students applying to the B.A. or B. F. A. in Theatre are admitted into the program by interview, audition or portfolio review. Visit the Theatre, Film, Dance & Arts Management Department Web site for specific information on the process.
Department of Radiologic Technology
Radiologic Technology: Transfer students applying to the B.S. in Radiologic Technology must have completed between 58-64 college credits, including two four-credit courses in human anatomy and physiology I and II for a total of 8 credits, and a cumulative minimum 2.5 G.P.A. Students are required to have completed a math course that includes algebra and trigonometry. After the student is accepted to C.W. Post under general admission requirements, students must apply separately to the Radiologic Technology Department. Department of Nursing
Nursing (for transfer students only): Transfer students applying to the B.S. in Nursing are required to be licensed Registered Nurses. Minimum cumulative G.P.A. required is 2.5. Visit the Department of Nursing Web site for more information.
Department of Nutrition
Transfer students applying to the B.S. in Nutrition must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.8 for admissions review. Visit the Department of Nutrition Web site for more information.
Department of Social Work
Transfer students applying to the B.S. in Social Work must have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Students who do not meet the required academic standards may be admitted with special permission from the program director. Visit the Department of Social Work Web site for more information.
Honors Program
Transfer students interested in the Honors Program will meet with the program director to outline their academic plans.
