Long Island Vegetable Orchestra
The Long Island Vegetable Orchestra (LIVO) was founded in 2011 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. LIVO was created by grammy-nominated, C.W. Post adjunct music professor, Dr. Dale Stuckenbruck. In the tradition of the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra, which has received hearty acclaim for its performances, LIVO made its public debut at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on March 30, 2011 at the kick-off of C.W. Post’s Summer Sustainability Institute. The performance, led by Dr. Stuckenbruck featured 12 musicians comprised of C.W. Post students and high school students from the Waldorf School in Garden City. LIVO performs with freshly prepared instruments which may include a saxophone-soundalike “cucumberphone,” pumpkin basses, carrot flutes and eggplant for percussion. The musicians borrow from a range of musical genres including jazz, beat and classical.
Dr. Dale Stuckenbruck enjoys a diverse musical life as one of New York's leading concertmasters, soloists and chamber musician. His repertoire and leadership has enabled him to appear as a soloist and concertmaster with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, New York Virtuosi, Dance Theater of Harlem, Long Island Philharmonic, and Queens Philharmonic. He has recorded more than 100 film soundtracks and dozens of commercially available recordings on both the violin and the musical saw. As a Grammy nominated musical sawist, he has premiered concertos and new works for the musical saw. Performances include the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society and the Tonight Show. As a mandolinist, he has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, and the American Ballet Theater. He has been featured in “Strings Magazine” and “Newsday,” and in foreign journals. He is the founder of a youth string ensemble Kammermusik.
