Capstone students receive a 30-day unlimited Metrocard each month to ride NYC’s subways and buses.
Housing & Food
Students have a number of housing options that include living in the on-campus dormitory, off-campus student residences, rooms in private homes, and shared apartments. Most LIU Global students choose to find their own rentals with other students studying in NYC. Because rent is expensive in Manhattan, most LIU Global students choose to live in Brooklyn and Queens where there are more housing options at lower costs.
Meal plans are available for students who live on campus. New York provides a plethora of experiences for all tastes, including inexpensive ethnic restaurants, cafes, vegetarian eateries, etc. Brooklyn is a culturally diverse area that offers abundant Caribbean, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Kosher, and other foods from every region of the world.
Capstone students do not pay a room and board fee.
Students at the New York City Center are able to use the facilities of LIU Brooklyn. The campus supports 30 campus-wide labs with over 600 computers for student use. Classrooms and common spaces in the LIU Global Center include wireless Internet access and desktop computers. The LIU Global office gives students printing and copying capabilities.
Other student services available at LIU Brooklyn include Career Services, the Library, the Writing Center, Student Life & Leadership Development, and the Center for Learning & Academic Success.
Health & Safety
LIU Brooklyn offers comprehensive medical services to our students through a partnership with The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC), Family Medicine Department, which accepts most insurance carriers. TBHC Family Medicine is located just one block away from campus, on the corner of Willoughby Street and Ashland Place at 240 Willoughby Street.
LIU’s University Health and Medical Services serves as the Center for Healthy Living, maintaining all services such as healthy living programs, awareness initiatives, blood drives, and compliance with NYS Public Health Law.
Students may also utilize the Psychological Services Center, which provides free and confidential personal counseling to students. All services are provided by doctoral candidates in Clinical Psychology who are supervised by licensed psychologists.
