Admissions Policies & Requirements
Admission Requirements for all Applicants
All candidates for admission must complete an application. The online application does not require an admissions fee; however the paper application requires a $50 fee (please make check payable to LIU). Official transcript of all academic work and two letters of recommendation are also required.
Applicants who have completed academic work at other colleges or universities may apply for admission to LIU Global with advanced standing based on the number of credits previously earned. All transfer students are required to earn at least 64 semester-hour credits (four semesters) in LIU Global to qualify for the degree.
Credits transferred in must be a grade of “C” or better. LIU Global also awards credit for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and the College Level Examination Program (see below for more information). In order to transfer credits, applicants must submit an official college transcript that shows all completed coursework from an accredited university. LIU Global accepts credits from all subjects including math, sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences. Students may transfer up to 64 credits.
Students with less than 24 credits should apply to the Costa Rica Center. Students with over 24 college credits can apply to the India and China Centers, the Comparative Religion and Culture (requires faculty permission), South Africa (Spring term only), and Australia programs (Spring term only) in addition to the Costa Rica Center. Prospective students are encouraged to speak with a counselor for specific information as not all options may be possible for individual transfer students.
Students must choose from the above options to ensure proper course sequencing is met for graduation requirements.
Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and College Level Examination Program
Candidates who have taken courses in high school under the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board should arrange to have their scores sent to the Office of Admissions. Placement or credit (or both) may be granted for work that meets certain levels of achievement.
Students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate degree program may receive college-level credit for their exam results. Students receiving a 4 or higher (HL) will receive the appropriate equivalent credit at LIU Global.
Candidates who have participated in the College Level Examination Program of the College Entrance Examination Board should arrange to have their scores sent to the Office of Admissions. Placement may be granted for work that meets certain levels of achievement.
Applicants must disclose the above information to the admissions office when submitting an application. Failure to inform the office of such credit will impact placement within the program thus affecting graduation requirements.
LIU Global may grant life experience credit for work or independent study completed prior to entrance which reflects aspects of LIU Global's curriculum. Credit is not awarded for experience alone, but for what has been learned from that experience. The work or study must have been post high school level and pre-LIU Global acceptance. Students must have two full-time semester portfolios successfully completed and evaluated before they may apply for life experience credits. Life experience credits are limited to 18 and included as part of the 64 credit maximum students may transfer into LIU Global. There is a fee of $200 for the first 3 credits and $100 for each additional credit.
