Profiles in Success

Emily Engel

Dr. Emily Engel, Psy.D., Class of 2010

While earning a doctorate in clinical psychology at LIU Post, Emily Engel was a founding student organizer of the Community Trauma Response Team, provided counseling and referrals to underserved communities and populations, and counseled first responders and relatives of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. She was honored as a Health Care Hero by the Long Island Business News.

"Since graduation, I have relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, earned my license and begun working in private practice with a nonprofit organization. I give lectures and presentations at hospitals, rehabilitation centers and schools, and am establishing myself as a specialist in trauma recovery and child/adolescent issues. Most recently, I presented "Crises and Disasters in Schools: Preparation, Response and Recovery" at Presbyterian Hospital's Behavioral Health Symposium, and assisted local schools in commemorating the anniversary of 9/11. My education at LIU Post prepared me well to transition into a professional role in a new community."
