Matthew Murphy, a 1993 graduate of the Rockland Graduate Campus of Long Island University, has been named recipient of the 2006 Elementary School Principal of the Year: Rewarding Visionary Leadership award by the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association and the Educational Technology Service.
Murphy was honored for his leadership of the Berkeley Avenue Elementary School in Westwood, N.J. He has since moved on to a new position: director of elementary education and district technology for the Westwood Regional School District.
“I'm really excited for the school, because it's really about delivering an exciting and engaging experience for our students,” Murphy said. “It's not about one individual but rather about the whole community.”
A native of Pearl River, N.Y., Murphy earned his Bachelor of Science in elementary education at the University of Rhode Island. He completed his Master of Science in Technology in Education at the Rockland Graduate Campus in 1993. Murphy went on to earn a professional diploma and a doctorate in administration and supervision from Fordham University.
