Education Programs at the Rockland Graduate Campus Awarded Accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council

Orangeburg, N.Y. – The teacher education programs at the Rockland Graduate Campus of Long Island University have earned elite accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council, signifying that the programs are exemplary in preparing competent, caring and qualified professional educators who will teach and lead in pre-K through grade 12 schools.

“This accreditation signifies a major accrediting council's judgment that, after a thorough evaluation of our programs and faculty, the Rockland Graduate Campus of Long Island University meets the highest standards and levels of accomplishment,” said Nancy Low Hogan, Associate Provost of the Rockland Graduate Campus. “We are proud to prepare highly qualified educators to serve in our schools and our community.”

Students can choose from master's degrees in Adolescence Education, Childhood Education, Special Education, Literacy and two dual-degree programs in Childhood Education/ Special Education and Childhood Education/Literacy. A new “C.A.S.E.” program, Concentration in Autism in Special Education, is a 30-credit Master's degree program that leads to an M.S.Ed. in Special Education with a Concentration in Autism. Also available at the Campus are an M.S.Ed. in School Building Leader as well as Advanced Certificates for School Building Leaders and School District Leaders.

The Rockland Graduate Campus is committed to providing professional experiences that are an important aspect of the program of study of professional educators. These experiences bring the prospective teacher and specialist face-to-face with the realities of the classroom, the school and community, and also provide opportunities for participation in the study, research and analysis of contemporary problems in education.

Founded in 1997, the Teacher Education Accreditation Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving academic degree programs for professional educators of pre-kindergarten to grade 12.

Classes at the Rockland Graduate Campus are offered in the evening and on weekends, allowing students to balance their studies with work and family responsibilities. Professors are accessible and dedicated to helping students succeed. Courses are challenging and stimulating, and curricula are up-to-date with the latest trends, pedagogy and teaching methods. A state-of-the-art Model Classroom is available on the Campus for students to learn about the employing the latest technology for teaching in the classroom.
