STEMLIU Hudson alumna Lisa Reece ’08, M.S.Ed. in Adolescence Education, was chosen among hundreds of applicants to be one of 50 fellows with the Siemens STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) program. Reece, who teaches living environment and a three-year program in science research at Warwick Valley High School in Orange County, N.Y., was joined by a select group of talented educators to learn about groundbreaking innovations in teaching and learning.

The teachers, from middle and high schools from all over the country, came together to brainstorm and share ideas, and attend workshops and panel discussions. They spent an all-expense-paid week in Washington, D.C., learning from top innovators in the STEM field and meeting with White House officials.

“Being chosen as a Siemens STEM Fellow was an exciting opportunity to join a diverse group of teachers to learn about new and innovative teaching methods,” said Reece. “I credit my education at LIU for preparing me to succeed in this fast-evolving field.”
