Advanced Certificate in Childhood Special Education (Gr. 1 – 6)
The 21-credit Advanced Certificate in Childhood Special Education is for students with prior certification in childhood education (1 – 6) education who are seeking to extend their scope of knowledge and expertise in the field of Special Education. It leads to eligibility for initial NYS Certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities, grades 1-6. It prepares students to teach in inclusive or self-contained special education classrooms and resource rooms at the elementary school level.
Students graduating from this program are eligible for teaching certification once they have passed all required portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). Students may also apply for Internship Certification in special education after completing the first 11 credits. Internship Certification permits students to begin teaching while they complete their programs.
