M.S. in Ed. in Childhood (Gr. 1 – 6) and Special Education (Gr. 1 – 6)
The 47-credit M.S.Ed. in Childhood and Childhood Special Education is for students without prior certification. It leads to a Master of Science degree and eligibility for initial NYS Certification in both Childhood Education (Gr. 1 – 6) and Students with Disabilities (Gr. 1 – 6). It prepares students to teach in inclusive or self-contained special education classrooms and resource rooms at the elementary school level.
Students graduating from this program are eligible for teaching certification once they have passed all required portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). Students may also apply for Internship Certification in childhood education or special education after completing the first 24 credits. Internship Certification permits students to begin teaching while they complete their degrees.
