M.S. in Ed. in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education (Birth – Gr. 2)
The 44-credit M.S.Ed. in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education is for students without prior certification. It leads to a Master of Science degree and eligibility for initial NYS Certification in both Early Childhood Education (Birth - 2) and Students with Disabilities (Birth – 2). It prepares students to teach in inclusive or self-contained special education classrooms at the early childhood level. In addition, graduates will be eligible for positions as a SEIT (Special Education Itinerant Teacher), providing services at nursery schools, child-care centers and children's homes, hospitals, libraries, and community centers.
Students graduating from this program are eligible for teaching certification once they have passed all required portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). Students may also apply for Internship Certification in early childhood education or early childhood special education after completing the first 22 credits. Internship Certification permits students to begin teaching while they complete their degrees.
