How to Apply
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA (for continuing students) is the core application that is required for all students applying for financial aid. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This Web site is user friendly, with step-by-step instructions to help students and parents complete the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA with a minimum of errors. The School Code for Long Island University – All Campuses is 002751.
For help and some tips in completing the FAFSA, print out our instruction sheet “FAFSA Flyer” from the Brochures & Forms section on this Web site. The brochures section of the site has myriad instructional guides that will assist you and your parents in obtaining a federal PIN number and completing the FAFSA. For help in obtaining a federal PIN, see the “Establish a Federal Student Aid PIN” Downloadable brochure in the Brochures & Forms section. The federal PIN serves as your electronic signature and is needed in order to complete the FAFSA.
Remember to print out the confirmation pages from both the FAFSA and the Federal PIN sites to keep for your records. Without the PIN, no corrections can be made to FAFSA information. A student also would not be able to access their federal records online without the PIN.
Entering first-time students have a rolling financial aid deadline date and can inquire about their financial aid status with the Office of Student Financial Services shortly after receiving their admissions notification. All students should check the Dates & Deadlines section of this Web site for important dates, including deadlines for Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Student Loans.
Completing the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA gives students access to the various types of financial aid available at the Hudson Graduate Centers from the state and federal governments. The University also offers a wide variety of scholarships.
