Description

For more than two decades Harold L. Kirschenbaum's career in pharmacy has been marked by academic thoroughness and a passion for the profession—values he strives to instill in his students.

At LIU Pharmacy, Dr. Kirschenbaum has held numerous key positions, including director of the post-baccalaureate Pharm.D. program, chairman of the task force that developed the curriculum for the entry-level Pharm.D., and associate dean for experiential education. Today, he serves as associate dean for professional affairs and professor of pharmacy practice. At the College, Dr. Kirschenbaum has been deeply involved in curricular assessment and the accreditation process. In addition, he has always spent time in the classroom helping to educate the next generation of pharmacists.

The author of more than 75 articles and a book designed to help students during their pharmacy practice experiences, Dr. Kirschenbaum serves on the editorial board for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. He is the past editor of the new drugs section for the journal Clinical Therapeutics, and past editor of the review article section for The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy. He was also an editor for the journal Current Medical Research and Opinion. He served on committees for several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. His scholarly activities focus on institutional research and, on occasion, the scholarship of teaching, drug information, and drug compatibility issues.

In addition to making his mark in academia, Dr. Kirschenbaum has practiced in community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and long-term care settings, and has worked in medical advertising.

An active alumnus, he served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors for more than a decade. Recently, Dr. Kirschenbaum served as chairman of the 125th anniversary committee for the College, spearheading LIU Pharmacy's Founding Day celebration in April 2011 and the dedication of a Wall of Honor in September 2011. He has received numerous awards from LIU, but is most proud of being named a distinguished alumnus.
