LIU Riverhead Purchases Building on SCCC Campus

Rita Langdon,Associate Provost and Director of Public Relations
LIU Riverhead

Riverhead, N.Y. -- LIU Riverhead has strengthened its ties with Suffolk County Community College and its commitment to eastern Long Island by purchasing its building at SCCC's Eastern Campus and signing a new, 10-year lease for its property.

The purchase and lease confirm the success of LIU Riverhead, the only private university offering four-year and master's degrees on the East End, and its relations ship with Suffolk County Community College, whose graduates can transfer seamlessly to LIU to complete select baccalaureate and graduate degrees.
The University has been leasing the free-standing academic building since 2006 from SCCC to provide degree programs in education and homeland security management. Since its founding, LIU Riverhead's enrollment has grown from 125 students to 250. In conjunction with Suffolk County Community College, LIU Riverhead offers an upper-division bachelor's degree program in childhood education and in communications studies/new media, the only degree of its kind on Long Island.

The 10,000-square-foot, one-level building is situated at SCCC's Eastern Campus on County Road 51, Riverhead-Moriches Road in Riverhead. The building contains seven wireless classrooms, a computer laboratory and student lounge as well as offices for faculty and administrative staff. Continuing education classes in real estate and the Center for Creative Retirement are also offered at the site.

This year, the university – itself formally renamed LIU – has launched an extensive advertising campaign throughout Long Island and the New York metro area, with ads on billboards in the heart of Manhattan, on the Long Island Rail Road, in subway stations and bus shelters, in social and traditional media and other venues. The advertisements feature a new tagline, "Find Out How Good You Really Are," which captures the essence of the university's mission of helping each student realize his or her potential -- academically, professionally and personally.

"Since its founding in 2006, LIU Riverhead has established itself as eastern Long Island's premier institution of higher education, and we are continuously expanding our catalogue of degrees and graduate-level certificates," said Jennifer Browne, J.D., associate provost of LIU Riverhead. "Our rebranding is consistent with how we are known in the community, and will resonate with a generation that expects communications to be quick and to the point. Our new logo reflects our bold optimism and the tremendous advantages that come with being part of one of the country's most comprehensive private universities."

Located at the Eastern Campus of Suffolk County Community College, LIU Riverhead offers undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs in education, homeland security management and communication studies.
