The C.W. Post Department of Music provides a dynamic, intensive and supportive environment that will nurture your talent as a performer, music educator or scholar. Our conservatory-style program, within a liberal arts university, brings you a diverse array of performance and academic opportunities. We offer a full curriculum of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs taught by more than 70 nationally and internationally recognized performers, conductors, composers, researchers and music educators. The Department of Music offers a variety of public performance opportunities to showcase your skills and talents, including solo student recitals, workshops, master classes and concerts both on Campus and at major concert halls in New York City and abroad. Performance majors enjoy vibrant careers as composers, performers in Broadway shows, members of major orchestras and opera companies, and as music scholars and researchers. More than 95% of our music education majors obtain teaching positions following graduation.

Derrick Davis, B.F.A. Music, Class of 2000
Derrick is currently playing the role of Mufasa in the national tour of Disney's The Lion King. In March 2011, Davis was also the featured baritone at the Las Vegas Philharmonic's Rogers and Hammerstein concert. Davis has had roles in "Show Boat," Earl Wilson Jr.'s "You're It!" "If I Die," "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and "Die Fledermaus." He has appeared in television and cinematic work, including "Dancing with the Stars," "Live with Regis and Kelly," "A Christmas Tale," and Def Jam Records music video, "Love is You." Davis has performed with and opened for renowned recording artists, including Chrisette Michele, Shirley Caesar and Donnie McClurkin.
"My time at Post was both educationally enriching and foundation building. The Department of Music is a hidden treasure, a family that cares so deeply for its members that without it I would not be the performer that I am today," Davis said.
