Long Island University is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 215-662-5606. The Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The academic programs of Long Island University are registered with the New York State Education Department.

In addition to the University's accreditation as a whole, various individual academic programs are specially accredited by professional organizations, signifying that they meet the highest standards of educational quality as determined by leaders in the field. Organizations that professionally accredited LIU Brentwood Programs are noted below.

Teacher Education Accreditation Council
The graduate teacher education programs of the College of Education, Information and Technology (CEIT) at LIU Brentwood are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council, signifying they meet the highest standards of quality in preparing competent, caring and qualified professional educators who will teach and lead in pre-K through grade 12 schools.
The programs within the following CEIT departments are accredited by TEAC:

  • Department of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Department of Special Education and Literacy

The Teacher Education Accreditation Council, founded in 1997, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving academic degree programs for professional educators of pre-K to grade 12.

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) Accreditation
The master's degrees in School Counselor and Mental Health Counseling are nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), an independent agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit master's degree programs in a variety of specialties and concentrations in the field of counseling.

American Library Association

Americal Library Association (ALA) Accreditation
The Palmer School of Library and Information Science at LIU Post (which also offers courses at LIU Brentwood) administers the M.S. in Library and Information Science. The master's degree is one of only 62 programs accredited by the American Library Association in the United States and Canada. Graduating from an ALA-accredited program enhances career mobility by opening doors to the broadest range of job opportunities. Most employers require an ALA-accredited master's degree for professional level positions, and many states require an ALA-accredited degree to work as a professional librarian in public or school libraries.
