Long Island University partners with Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) to lease a classroom building on SCCC's Eastern Campus significantly expanding graduate offerings in western Suffolk and on the East End of Long Island, including the north and south forks.

LIU Riverhead opens for master's programs in childhood education, literacy education and teaching students with disabilities. Master's degree in Homeland Security Management is registered with the New York State Department of Education. It is the first of its kind in New York State and the University's first fully online program.
January 2007
Homeland Security Management Institute enrolls first cohort of agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
July 2007
Homeland Security Management Institute designated by Congress as a National Transportation Security Center of Excellence.
October 2007
Homeland Security Management Institute receives $850,000 in funding from the Department of Homeland Security Office of Grants and Training.
May 2008
First class of 55 students graduates from LIU Riverhead with master's degrees and advanced certificates in education and homeland security management. Reception held at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead.
June 2008
Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis is launched, leading to an advanced credential for teachers and professionals working with people with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome or mental retardation.
January 2009
Teacher Education Programs are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.
May 2009
Sixty-six students graduate. Enrollment for 2008-2009 is up 27 percent from 2007-2008 academic year.
September 2009
First undergraduate degree program is launched at LIU Riverhead – the upper-division B.S. in Childhood Education (Grades 1 to 6).
May 2010
First formal Commencement exercises are held at The Vineyard in Aquebogue with 92 graduates with a keynote address by Edward Shorin, chancellor of LIU Riverhead.
May 2011
First cohort of 13 students graduate with the bachelor’s degree in childhood education at commencement held at Giorgio's in Baiting Hollow, N.Y.
June 2011
New York State Education Department approves B.A. in Communications Studies – New Media; first class begins September 2011.
March 2012
New York State Education Department approves Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security Policy offered by the LIU Homeland Security Management Institute.
May 2012
LIU Riverhead's Class of 2012 consists of 108 students: 17 bachelor's degree recipients, 78 master's degree recipients and 13 Advanced Certificates. Fifth annual commencement exercises held at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center.
