Central Service Technology Certificate Program

The Central Service Technology Certificate Program is designed to train individuals to receive and process supplies and equipment from operating rooms and nursing units throughout a hospital. The training includes decontamination, sterilization, and the preparation and assembling of surgical instruments for distribution.

Admissions Criteria

The criteria for entry into the Central Service Certificate Program:

Proof of an educational level of GED, high school or greater

Completion of departmental application

Submission of current photo ID

Courses

The following courses are required for successful completion of the certificate program.

CSTT 100 Central Service Technology I
An introduction to the profession of central supply, featuring a condensed review of basic microbiology. The course also focuses on infection control and the cleaning, decontaminating and disinfecting of instrumentation. There will be instruction in equipment management and both high and low temperature sterilization of instruments.

CSTT 101 Central Service Technology II
Surgical instrumentation and the proper packaging and storage of rigid container systems are among the important skills taught in this course. Quality assurance and controls, safety, procurement, inventory management and distribution, information technology and the legal issues of regulation and reuse are among the topics covered in class. The course concludes with a review of human relations skills and profession development, as well as an in-depth look at health care trends for the future in central services.
(40 hours) Prerequisite: CSTT 100.
