Description
I was born raised and still reside in Brooklyn. I am also a proud alumnus of LIU College of Pharmacy. Shortly after graduation my wife Lynne (also an alumnus) and I started a community pharmacy practice in Brooklyn- Marine Park Pharmacy. Always interested in psychology and behavioral science, I went back to graduate school full-time (while operating our pharmacy) earning my masters and doctoral degrees in psychology and adult education (respectively). My academic career at LIU began in the fall of 1998 and continues today. I could not be more delighted with my career at LIU. I enjoy teaching and conducting meaningful research in social pharmacy and pharmacy education. Lynne and I have 16-year-old triplets- John, Emily and Patrick.
Specialties
Using self-reflection methodologies as a tool for personal and professional growth; Empathic communication and development in students and pharmacists; How effective conflict management skills are learned in pharmacists and other heath professionals; Academic program development.
Research Interests:
My research is focused on how the learning sciences can influence the development of cognitive skills, attitudes and behaviors such as empathy and self-reflection in pharmacy students, pharmacists, and other health care providers. I am also involved in investigating theories and best practices in how educators can utilize self-reflective practices in the classroom.
