Description
Dr. Torres-Panchamé has been a member of the Department of Physical Therapy since 2008 and a practicing physical therapist since 2004. She was a staff member and the Clinical Director of LIU Center for Physical Rehabilitation, an onsite physical therapy clinic, servicing the LIU and local community from 2008-2012. Dr. Torres-Panchamé joined the academic program in 2012 as the Director of Physical Therapy Admissions. She began her full time non-tenure track appointment as an Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education in 2015 and 2018 respectively. Her continuing education has focused on manual therapy, orthopedics and education, receiving her certification as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2012 and a Certificate of Essential Skills in Medical Education in the UK through the International Association of Medical Science Educators in 2013. While teaching across the curriculum in foundational clinical sciences, musculoskeletal patient management, and clinical reasoning coursework, Dr. Torres-Panchamé maintains clinical practice outside of LIU and is active within the physical therapy profession. Currently, she is Vice Chair of the Greater New York District of the New York Physical Therapy Association. Her various experiences have provided her perspectives and insights that reinforce her passion as a clinical educator for students and community. Her educational based research interests involve topics in student physical therapists’ emotional intelligence, patient-clinician therapeutic alliances, and clinical reasoning.
