New Student Orientation


Whether you are a first-year, transfer or graduate student, New Student Orientation serves as the introduction to the Long Island University campus and community. The program will give you an overview of the opportunities and resources available to you as a student at LIU.

Your Orientation Leaders will serve as your main point of contact throughout the program. These friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic upperclassmen will help provide each new student with the ultimate orientation experience. Along with our Orientation Leaders, LIU Promise, our Faculty and staff will be able to ensure all your questions are answered.


First-Year Orientation

September 4 - 5, 2021 | Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

First-year orientation is designed to prepare you for a successful transition to college. During orientation, you will engage in social, educational, and interactive sessions with faculty, staff, and peers. Don't miss out on a fun and memorable welcome to Shark Nation!

Transfer & Graduate Orientation 

September 7, 2021 | Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m.

This program is open to all new incoming Transfer and Graduate Students at Long Island University. This program includes informational and interactive sessions with faculty, staff, and peers. Don't miss out on a memorable welcome to Shark Nation!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the address to campus?

1 University Plaza, Brooklyn NY 11201. Students will enter through the Flatbush Avenue entrance right down the street, be on the lookout for balloons!


Do commuting students reside on campus during orientation?

Only students living on campus for the Fall semester will reside on campus during orientation.


Can my parent/family member stay with me during Orientation?

A separate Parent & Family Orientation program will be hold on September 3rd and 5th. For more information visit our Parent & Family Orientation Page.


What do I need to bring with me?

Other than yourself, a notebook, pen/pencil, cell phone, and Shark Spirit! 


Will food be provided?

Yes! All meals will be provided for the duration of orientation.


What do I wear to orientation?

Comfortable, casual clothes, and sneakers! 


Can I pick up my textbooks at orientation?

Yes! Students can order textbooks at the University Bookstore. Place your orders online and have the books either delivered to your home or pick them up at the bookstore during orientation.


I am living on-campus this semester, when can I move-in?

Check in for first-year residential students will be Friday September 3rd  to ensure all students are set for Orientation. Residential students will receive a separate email from Promise in the next couple days regarding move-in specifics.
