Dear !*FIRSTNAME*!,
I hope that your spring semester is off to a fantastic start. As a reminder, you have an approved remote learning accommodation. This accommodation applies to all of your lecture-style courses this semester. Labs and clinicals are being held in-person.
Our faculty are committed to providing you an extraordinary academic experience this semester. As an LIU student who will be participating in remote-learning, you want to make sure that you have all the necessary information for the first day of classes.
Accessing your Courses Online
Blackboard is the LIU Web-based course management system designed to allow students to participate in classes delivered online and in-person. Blackboard may be used for course materials, discussion boards, virtual chat, online quizzes, an academic resource center, and more.
Simply log into Blackboard using your MyLIU credentials at the time of your course. The Zoom Link to join your virtual course and any other material provided by your faculty member will be available. Please contact your specific faculty member

Ordering your Textbooks
To order your textbooks and other course materials, visit the online textbook section of the LIU Bookstore. You can search for materials by entering your course information and have your textbooks delivered to your home.
Support from Information Technology
As a remote learner, our Information Technology team has your back. IT professionals are available during class hours to help answer any questions. Please see below for some helpful tutorials regarding key technological resources.
To view tutorials, frequently asked questions, and contact Information Technology, visit the IT Support Page.
Preparing for Class Participation
It is important that you are still prepared to actively participate in class. It is expected that you have your camera on and be in a quiet space where you can engage in class discussion and hear class lectures. Be sure to complete all required assignments and follow the course syllabus in the same manner as a student participating in-person.
Accessing the University from Home
You have access to virtual office hours and resources across the University. In addition to your success coach, all of our student support services and academic departments stand ready to support you as we begin the fall semester.
Remain Engaged with Shark Nation.
While learning remotely, you can remain connected to campus. The Division of Student Affairs has planned hundreds of exciting student events that will take place in a hybrid or virtual way this semester. In addition, you can join a club, be part of a fraternity or sorority, or take advantage of other amazing opportunities from the comfort of your home.
To view student events, visit the LIU Calendar of Events.
I wish you all the best for a successful spring semester. If I can help answer any questions as you begin the semester, just simply send me an email at michael.berthel@liu.edu.
Sincerely,
Michael Berthel
Vice President for Student Affairs
