Internships & Service Learning
During each fall and spring semester in the Asia-Pacific Australia program students may have the opportunity to participate in short-term voluntary internship and service learning projects. During their senior-year IRIS Program, students may also select to return to Byron Bay and undertake a semester-long internship. - Try out your journalism skills reporting on-air radio stories on local issues and events for Bay FM, Byron Bay’s local community radio station, or writing for the Byron Shire Echo, a weekly community-owned newspaper.
- Be part of the renewable energy revolution with Enova Energy, an innovative social enterprise energy retailer that provides 100% renewable energy to its business and household customers.
- Care for injured turtles and birds, and help educate the public about the dangers of plastic pollution by working with Australian Seabird Rescue.
- Volunteer your time for a number of important local grassroots initiatives around homelessness, gender inequality and more with the Byron Community Centre.
- Learn about all aspects of sustainable development while interning with long-established local consultancy firm Sustainable Futures.
- Hone your social media, direct action and campaigning skills by volunteering with local NGO Positive Change for Marine Life.
