Description
Dr. Anthony J. Cutie, professor of pharmaceutics, received his B.S. degree in pharmacy from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy, his master’s degree and his Ph.D. from Rutgers University, College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Cutie has been extremely active in the formulation and reformulation of new chemical entities and generic metered dose aerosol products. He has served as a consultant for the FDA and has been an active member over the past 40 years with various USP committees, with the Aerosol Specification Committee and with the Pharmaceutical Aerosol Committee of AAPS. Dr. Cutie has consulted in aerosol formulations and related aerosol device technology including breath activating and coordinating devices, dose counters, high energy vortex delivery and device lock out for over 40 pharmaceutical companies and related industry suppliers. Dr. Cutie has served as a member to IPAC-I and IPAC-II (international environmental consortiums) to study and evaluate the safety and efficacy of aerosol products in environmentally safe propellants. He presently serves as a member of IPAC-RS an international consortium of aerosol companies to ensure quality and safety of inhalation aerosols, dry powder inhalers and nebulizers. He has authored a number of chapters on pharmaceutical aerosols, published over 50 papers, has secured over 45 aerosol patents and is presently active in aerosol research, product development and evaluating and testing CFC replacements. He has served as an expert witness in numerous national and international intellectual property disputes. Dr. Cutie has also been active in developing test methodologies and specifications packages for metered dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers, and nebulized systems.
Dr. Cutie continues to lecture and chair aerosol technology numerous courses both in the United States and abroad. He has been well recognized in the area of pharmaceutical aerosols and has been the recipient of awards for his numerous contributions.
In his tenure at the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences of Long Island University, Dr. Cutie is one of two faculty member at Long Island University to be the recipient of the University’s four most prestigious awards. He was the recipient of the Newton Award for outstanding teaching, the Founders Award on two occasions (once as a faculty member and once as an administrator) for creativity, the TASA Award for research and scholarly activity and the Chancellor’s Award for University service. In addition, he has received the Salena Research Award, the Alumni Award, and the Rho Chi Award and has held numerous leadership positions at the University including Associate Dean of Students for 7 years and President of the AMS-AAUP Bargaining Unit Chapter for 15 years. He has served as the Director of the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences and as Director of Pharmacy Practice.
Dr. Cutie has served as the College’s liaison to the New York State Board of Pharmacy since 1968 and “enjoys nothing more” than teaching and watching pharmacy students licensing in to the profession that he treasures.
Dr. Cutie’s professional memberships include the American Pharmacists Association, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, New York Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Rho Chi and Sigma Xi. He has also served as General Vice Chairman and then as General Chairman for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
