Dr. Swede received her undergraduate degree in biology from Brandeis University, working in the drosophila lab of Dr. Kalpana White. She then earned her PhD in biology at Carnegie Mellon in the lab of Dr. Susan Henry, studying the genetic control of lipid synthesis in yeast. After finishing her postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University at St. Louis, Dr. Swede joined the faculty at Middlesex Community College in Connecticut. While there, Dr. Swede developed biotechnology and forensic science degree programs and served as chair of the Science, Allied Health and Engineering Department. Dr. Swede came to LIU Post in the summer of 2012 to serve as the chair of the Department of Health Sciences. Dr. Swede’s research focus is studying antifungal resistance pathways in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, using genetics, molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
