Description

Dr. Nassima Abdelli-Beruh is a speech scientist with a background in Experimental Cognitive Psychology. She earned a Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). She acquired a comprehensive background in Experimental Psychology and Neuro-Physiology at the University of Paris-X and Paris-VI in France. She has been an assistant professor at NYU for four years before joining the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at LIU POST in September 2006.  Her research focuses on gender differences in vocal fry, speech production of the voicing contrast in Parisian French, the acoustic underpinnings of the rule of regressive voicing assimilation in French stops, and the relationship between language and speech.

• Research summary: Since earning her Ph.D. in Speech & Hearing Sciences, Dr. Abdelli-Beruh has developed several research tracks: production of the voicing contrast by Parisian French speakers; the acoustic underpinnings of the rule of regressive voicing assimilation in French stops; the production and perception of idioms in Parisian French and American English; the prevalence of vocal fry and its acoustic patterns in American English speakers, a research that has attracted world-wide media press attention.
