Description
Dr. Lynn Cohen is professor in the department of teaching and literacy at Long Island University/Post. She teaches courses at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. Before becoming a teacher educator, she was a preschool, kindergarten, and literacy teacher. Dr. Cohen enjoys the mixing of teaching, mentoring students, providing service to local school districts, producing scholarly research, and participating in service to Long Island University/Post and professional organizations.
She has strong interests in the academic and social skills of early childhood students from diverse cultural backgrounds, including the ways in which children are classed and gendered. She explores these areas in educational institutions and peer cultures in and out of school settings. Her recent publications are framed from the sociological and philosophical theories of Mikhail Bakhtin; only a few international scholars have operationalized early education from a Bakhtinian perspective
