Description

Maureen P. Cardoza, Ph.D. R.N., CADDCT, CDP began her nursing career as a diploma graduate of the Catholic Medical Center School of Nursing, NY then obtained a Baccalaureate of Nursing degree from Stony Brook University, NY.  Dr. Cardoza is a Molloy College, NY graduate having obtained a Masters Degree in Nursing Education followed by becoming the first graduate of the revived Adelphi University, NY.  Ph.D. in Nursing program.

            Dr. Cardoza possesses decades of primary care, clinical and nursing education experience in Baccalaureate and Master Degree nursing programs as well as Nursing Continuing Education.  She is a tenured, Associate professor and the former Chair of the LIU Post Department of Nursing. She is a requested speaker at national and international conferences pertaining to medical, nursing, Long Term Care emergency preparedness and educational topics that included the Mayo Clinic, MN; the Hospital for Special Surgery, NYC; as well as international audiences at universities and conferences in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Mexico.

            Dr. Cardoza is an advocate for primary care provider competency having created curriculum and educated various levels of healthcare providers caring for vulnerable populations in acute, chronic and community primary care settings. Dr. Cardoza’s areas of practice, publications and research include: the integration of emergency preparedness in healthcare settings for primary care providers, high fidelity human simulators in nursing education; the neurobiology of learning, self-efficacy, and nursing education strategies.

             Dr. Cardoza is a 2012-2016 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Gerontology grant awardee who has designed primary healthcare provider professional and paraprofessional gerontology curriculum addressing the needs of vulnerable older adults.    She is a member of the United Nations Advisory Council on Global Nursing representing the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI). Dr. Cardoza is an Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT) and Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and is an End-of-Life Trainer for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) as well as the national TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer program.

            Dr. Cardoza is a journal reviewer for the nursing journals Computer, Informatics, Nursing (CIN), Nursing Education Today and the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Geriatrics and Palliative Care and is an abstract reviewer for the National League of Nursing Education (NLN) Summit and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) annual conferences.

            Dr. Cardoza embraces volunteerism as she serves on numerous public service organizations that include: the Nassau County Medical Reserve Corp., the NY State Society on Ageing, and the American Cancer Society. She is past President of the Nassau- Suffolk Council of Hospitals and Nursing Education after having served in a number of board positions and remains a staunch advocate for the harmonious dialogues between education and service nursing partners.  Additionally, she is currently a consultant to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Health- and a curriculum developer, facilitator and mentor in their Long-Term Care Emergency Management Program.

            Dr. Cardoza serves on numerous professional and organizational committees for the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the National League for Nursing, the New York State League for Nursing and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning.
