Description

Shailendra C. Jain Palvia is a tenured professor of management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. From 1997-2004, Dr. Palvia was the director of Management Information Systems at Long Island University. He earned a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. form the University of Minnesota. Prior to that, he received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India. Prior to joining the faculty at Long Island University, Dr. Palvia taught at Kent State University, (Ohio); Babson College (Wellesley, Mass.); and Nanyang Technology University (Singapore).

Dr. Palvia’s research interests and publications are in the areas of management of the systems development process, the human side of information technology, social issues of information technology, global issues of information technology, IT applications and architecture, telecommuting, computer software training methods, global electronic commerce, global outsourcing of IT and IT enabled services, and e-government. He has published over 140 refereed articles in journals, conference proceedings and books. His publications are in journals like Decision Sciences, Communications of the ACM, MIS Quarterly, the Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, the Journal of Systems Management, the International Journal of Information Management, Electronic Markets, Information Resource Management Journal, the Journal of Industrial Management and Data Systems, the Journal of Global Information Management and the Journal of Information Systems Education. He has co-edited four books on the theme of global IT and electronic commerce management (1992, 1996, 2002 and 2007).

As founding editor, Dr. Palvia helmed the Journal of IT Case and Application Research (JITCAR) for 9 years from 1999-2007. JITCAR is now recognized as a world class journal dedicated to the research methodology of case and application studies. Since 2002, he has been chairing the annual international smart-sourcing conferences (www.outsourceglobal.org). The last eight conferences have been held in Atlanta, Ga. (2002); New York City, N.Y. (2003); Dallas, Texas (2004); Washington, D.C. (2005): Los Angeles, Calif. (2006); Atlantic City, N.J. (2007); Hyderabad, India (2008); and Jersey City, N.J. (2009). The ninth annual international smart sourcing conference is being held at the IIT Delhi campus in India on January 5-6, 2011. Over the years, outside of the United States, he has been an invited speaker to Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, Thailand and Russia.
