Founded in 1996, the Post Concert Dance Company (PCDC) is the resident dance company of the Dance Program in the Department of Theatre, Dance and Arts Management. PCDC is a touring ensemble of dancers that reflects the commitment of the program to dance as a communicative language, to exploring the possibilities in dance creation, and to dance as a vehicle for social understanding and change. The company encourages dance majors to explore the history and legacy of their art through residencies with such established companies as the Martha Graham Co. Pilobolus, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Joffrey Ballet, and the José Limón Company. Through such residencies, provided by the generosity of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, PCDC dancers have performed and toured in such legacy works as “Ciona,” “Aureole,” “Choreographic Offering” “Panorama” and “Psalm,” and were the subject of the PBS dance film “In Motion: Martha Graham Dance Company in residence at LIU Post.
Our Mission
The mission of the Post Concert Dance Company is twofold: to provide a performing ensemble which approaches as closely as possible the conditions of a working professional dance company, and to present dynamic new choreography and historically important legacy works that affirm dance as vital and relevant to our diverse global society.
The company provides
The company encourages students to explore the future of their art through opportunities to work with cutting-edge choreographers from the New York and the international scene in an annual showcase presented every year at the Symphony Space at Broadway in New York City, a well-known venue for dance.
The company encourages students to explore the possibilities of their art through choreography and production in more than 10 concerts a year. Student choreographers present their preparation and research to the company at the beginning of each semester and show their work in informal concerts throughout the semester, culminating in fully produced productions at the end of every semester. The PCDC attends the American College Dance Festival every year and offers two student works for adjudication and performance. Alumni have continued to create and perform original choreography all over the world.
The company encourages students to explore the transmission of their art through lecture-demonstrations, workshops, and concerts in the community. Dancers bring their choreographic and pedagogical skills to local students through teaching residencies in local high schools and elementary schools, demonstrating the diversity of dance expression and communication through a variety and fusion of forms.
