Admission to the Theatre program for actors requires an audition and interview. The program conducts auditions both on campus, at Unified auditions, and regionally.
ALL auditions and interviews for theatre are by appointment only. To schedule your audition, please use the links below.
Appointments for theatre auditions at National Unified Auditions are highly recommended. We do accept "walk-in" auditions at National Unified Audition sites time permitting, so stop by our room to request an audition. Auditions at regional events may require pre-registration with a sponsoring organization.
Students who successfully complete their application, audition and interview in the fall will be informed of the department's decision in January. Students who successfully complete their application, audition and interview in the winter or spring will be informed of the department's decision in March.
Theatre Audition/Interview Requirements
Students should prepare two short contrasting contemporary monologues preferably from published plays. Monologues should be from characters aged within 5 – 7 years of student's actual age. Students interested in Musical Theatre should substitute 32 bars of a song for one monologue, and must provide their own recorded accompaniment. Total audition time is 3 minutes. BRING HEADSHOT AND RESUME.
Virtual Auditions for Theatre
International students, and domestic students who cannot get to an audition site below, may schedule a virtual audition or submit an audition video using the Acceptd website: www.getacceptd.com/liu. Your audition material should follow the guidelines listed above. In addition, for video auditions, we recommend that you shoot the audition in a medium shot, meaning from your waist up, and against a neutral background with no windows. Previously filmed material, edited to a 3-minute audition, is acceptable only if you have principal roles and the material is fictional. No television commercials or industrial film acting is acceptable. All audition material must be in English. Applicants must also complete an application to LIU Post, either on our website (www.liu.edu/post/admissions) or using the Common App (www.commonapp.org).
