MUSIC PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLES

LIU Post Orchestra

Eric Stewart, Director

The LIU Post Orchestra is an ensemble of 60 to 70 undergraduate and graduate students that rehearses and performs works of the great symphonic literature as well as works of contemporary composers. The orchestra presents concerts each semester at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts and often features student winners of the LIU Post Concerto Competition as soloists. Through the residency programs provided by Tilles Center, members of the orchestra have the opportunity to work with and receive coaching from members of the New York Philharmonic, visiting artists and ensembles such as the Shanghai String Quartet, and to attend open rehearsals and concerts. In the 2014-15 school year, the orchestra worked with members of the New York Philharmonic and the Shanghai Quartet. In January of 2009, the orchestra had a special meeting with conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, after an open rehearsal with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall. Members of the LIU Post Music Department faculty often do sectional rehearsals and master classes as well. Advanced high school students can also participate through audition and teacher recommendation in the Pre-College Guest program.

Rehearsals: Mondays 7-9 pm, Wednesdays 8-9 pm
