BETA ALPHA PSI

Beta Alpha Psi is an international honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. It was founded in 1919 and currently includes more than 275 chapters on college and university campuses. LIU Post’s Beta Alpha Psi Chapter – Kappa Omicron – was founded in 2001 and has been honored by the national chapter with "Superior Chapter" status for academic excellence for nine consecutive years.

The objectives of Kappa Omicron are to:

  1. Give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in accounting;
  2. Act as a liaison between students and the accounting profession; and
  3. Provide opportunities for self-development, community service, and association among members and professionals.

The organization stimulates interest in accounting and helps to develop leadership skills within its membership. BAP sponsors regular events with speakers from the accounting profession to offer students with the opportunity to learn about the accounting profession and the presenting firms, as well as other professional topics including resume writing, interviewing skills, and business etiquette.

BAP Members are active in the community by providing Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to patrons of local libraries and campus members, tutoring fellow accounting students, and visiting local high schools to speak with students about the benefits of the accounting major. Finally, members enjoy social activities including an annual alumni volleyball challenge, dinner dance and holiday party.

ACCOUNTING SOCIETY

LIU Post’s Accounting Society was established in 1966. The Society acts as a liaison between students and the accounting profession. It provides opportunities for self-development, community service, and association among its members and professionals. The Society stimulates interest and cooperation in accounting and develops leadership skills within its membership. Additionally, past projects include visiting the homebound, assisting in food and clothing drives, and painting the homes of low income families. The Society is supported by the University and must report all of its activities to the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development.
