Description

Dr. Lynne Manouvrier has been working in education on Long Island for more than forty-five years. A retired Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction from the East Meadow School District, Dr. Manouvrier is the Director for the Center for Gifted Youth at LIU Post and an adjunct professor in Special Education and Literacy. She earned her Ed.D in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies from LIU Post, researching parental attitudes towards the visual arts as a catalyst for student learning in the Hispanic population. Dr. Manouvrier has taught college courses in multicultural education, literacy, philosophy of education, and curriculum design, as well as serving as a field supervisor for student teachers. Dr. Manouvrier was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant for her work entitled, “Shakespeare and the Family.” She was the recipient of the Founders Day award for the creation of literacy centers and a Special Education Resource Center and Library in the East Meadow School District. Dr. Manouvrier was awarded a Nassau County Legislative Citation with Distinction for her educational contributions to the East Meadow School District. She was the past president of Phi Delta Kappa, the recipient of the March of Dimes Golden Apple Award, and the R. Gerald Melton scholarship from PDK.

Specialties

Areas of expertise: Gifted education, balanced literacy, multicultural education, curriculum design, utilizing the visual arts as a multimodal approach to student learning, creating parent outreach programs, grant writing and management, social and emotional learning, and character education.

• Dr. Manouvrier has also published articles on gifted education and parental perspectives on visual arts education for Parent Guide News. She is currently working on a study comparing sleep behaviors in gifted and non-gifted children.
