Jeanne Clery Act

Crime Awareness & Campus Security Act of 1990

Jeanne Clery Act In accordance with the provisions of the Jeanne Clery Act, LIU Posts' annual security report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by LIU Post; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security issues, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other relevant matters.

The following crime categories must be reported:

Clery Act Crimes:

  • Murder
  • Robbery
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Burglary
  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Manslaughter
  • Arson

Sex Offenses:

  • Rape
  • Fondling
  • Incest
  • Statutory Rape
  • Rape
  • Rape

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Offenses:

  • Domestic Violence
  • Dating Violence
  • Stalking

Arrests and Referrals:

  • Drug/Narcotic Violations
  • Alcohol Violations
  • Weapons Violations

Hate Crimes:

In relation to the Clery Act crimes and the following:

  • Larceny-Theft (Except Motor Vehicle Theft)
  • Intimidation
  • Simple Assault
  • Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property

LIU’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by LIU; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus.

The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, hate crimes, sexual assault including Title IX, Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA), domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, emergency operations plans including evacuation procedures, annual fire safety report and fire log, missing student notification, timely warnings and emergency notifications, and other matters.

This report may also be obtained upon request from the Department of Public Safety and Transportation.
