A college education is an important investment in your future. LIU's Center for Student Success & Coaching is dedicated to helping make a quality education affordable. Counselors are available for assistance with the financial aid application process and to advise you of the many financial aid options available, including grants, scholarships, loans and student employment, as well as payment options to assist in meeting educational expenses.
We also offer financial aid seminars throughout the year at local high schools and on campus. The seminars are free, open to the public, and provide detailed information about the FAFSA process and how to obtain the maximum amount of aid for your college education.
All LIU students –– current and prospective –– should apply for financial aid, regardless of need. Call us to set up an appointment with a counselor who will help you understand the financial aid process, discover scholarship and other funding opportunities, and gain the financial know-how to make informed decisions.
File a FAFSA
The first step is to complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA (for U.S. citizens and permanent residents) which asks you to provide financial information such as income and assets. Completing the FAFSA or CSS application is well worth the time investment. You could potentially receive thousands of dollars toward your education costs.
New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Enhanced Tuition Awards (ETA) – For New and Current Students
If you are a permanent resident of New York State, enrolled as a part-time or full-time college student, you can apply for a grant through New York State's Tuition Assistance Program. The TAP application process begins by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once you have completed the FAFSA form, click on the “TAP on the Web” link. You can also apply for the new Enhanced Tuition Award (ETA) program here as well.
For more information, visit the New York State’s TAP Web site.
Student Aid Report
After you file your FAFSA, you’ll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) that contains your Student Aid Index (SAI). If you’ve provided an email address as part of your FAFSA information, you will receive an email link to your SAR. Your SAR and SAI will be sent to the schools you’ve indicated on your FAFSA, and these schools will offer you financial aid packages based on this data.
