About the Hornstein Center


The Long Island University Steven S. Hornstein Center for Policy, Polling, and Analysis conducts independent polling, empirical research, and analysis on a wide range of public issues. Our studies inform the public and policy makers about critical issues, attitudes, and trends shaping the world. Faculty and scholars from all schools of study at Long Island University participate in data collection and analysis.

Leadership

Dr. Andy Person
Director, Steven S. Hornstein Center for Policy, Polling, and Analysis

Dr. Person currently serves as director of the Long Island University Steven S. Hornstein Center for Policy, Polling, and Analysis. Dr. Person has been instrumental in focusing Long Island University’s independent polling, empirical research, and analysis on a wide range of public issues. Long Island University Steven S. Hornstein Center studies inform the public and policy makers about critical issues, attitudes and trends shaping the world.

In addition to leading the Hornstein Center, Dr. Person also serves as the university’s chief of strategy and advancement where he stewards the fulfillment of the LIU Strategic Plan 2030 and fundraising efforts towards a vision of accelerating as a premier national teaching and research university.

Dr. Person’s career began as an officer in the United States Navy where he served in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Dr. Person led the safe navigation and flight operations of nuclear aircraft carrier USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and amphibious ship USS GUAM (LPH-9) in the Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, and Persian Gulf. Since then, Dr. Person has over 18 years of academic and executive leadership roles in higher education at the U.S. Naval Academy, State University of New York, Mercy College, and Long Island University.

Dr. Person graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and holds a doctorate in business.
