Long Island University's Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-LCVM) is proud to partner with more than 75 clinical affiliate partners that are passionate about educating the next generation of veterinarians. Clinical Affiliate Criteria
The following are attributes that are sought in practices wishing to participate in the LIU-LCVM clinical year program. Clinical Affiliates must:

• Have a desire to teach and educate veterinarians of tomorrow.
• Provide hands-on opportunities to students they deem competent.
• Provide physically- and psychologically-safe environments for students.
  • Physical facilities must be in compliance with AVMA-COE requirements.
  • Site meets all safety standards by following regulations for imaging, DEA, fire, OSHA and other legal requirements.
• Offer a robust caseload for a rich and varied clinical education experience.
• Provide on-site or internet-available reference resources.
• Include a clinical pathology laboratory on-site or accessible.
• Ensure diagnostic instrumentation and nursing care for in-patients are available by the accepted standard of care.
• Employ comprehensive and retrievable medical records to support student learning.
• Employ staff that will actively engage students to participate in clinical cases. This includes allowing for student interaction and discussion in the work-up of patients, including physical diagnosis, diagnostic problem-oriented decisions-making, and case management decisions.
• Provide a practice culture that promotes lifelong learning.
• Offer an environment that allows supervision and monitoring of the student's educational experience by the LIU-LCVM and feedback on student assessment.
• Ensure practitioners have a current active Veterinary License free of active veterinary board sanctions.
• Ensure doctors and staff have a passion and personality for teaching and scheduling that allows sufficient time to instruct and mentor students.
• Have a willingness to allow occasional pre-arranged LIU-LCVM site visits (e.g., safety visits, faculty visits, feedback visits).
• Have a willingness to work with the LIU-LCVM accrediting agency by completing required forms and allow mutually agreed upon pre-arranged visits (virtual or in person) by the AVMA Council on Education.
• Ensure supervising veterinarians and other staff veterinarians involved in delivering educational materials meet with LIU-LCVM representatives regularly regarding the program.
• Ensure supervising veterinarians agree to participate in on-site and/or other educational programs to learn about the LIU-LCVM program and its requirements.
• Include a conference room or area for small group learning sessions on-site.
• Ensure wireless internet access.
• Ensure computer literacy with the capability to interact with LIU-LCVM electronically.
• Have a willingness to give feedback to students on a regular and routine basis. As well as complete electronic evaluations on student performance.
• Have a willingness to participate in training and other quality support exercises deemed necessary by the LIU-LCVM.
