Mission Statement

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University is committed to fostering a culture that champions diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), accessibility, and well-being. Our mission is to strengthen the sense of belonging within the College and the veterinary profession through intentional community-building and respectful dialogue.


Vision Statement

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program aspires to lead and innovate by leveraging the College of Veterinary Medicine’s diverse academic and professional community to:

  • Advance and integrate a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and innovation across all aspects of the College.
  • Attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent to build a dynamic and diverse workforce.
  • Enhance engagement within the community and expand academic and professional impact.
  • Prepare veterinarians to excel in a diverse workforce and to be professionals dedicated to equity and inclusion in their practices and communities.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program is dedicated to fostering an environment where all College of Veterinary Medicine students feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed both on campus and in their professional journeys.


Community Goals

Operating as part of Long Island University, the College of Veterinary Medicine respects and adheres to the policies and principles established by LIU, ensuring alignment with the University’s mission and values. In pursuit of this, the College has identified the following community goals:

  1. Promote Collaboration and Engagement: Build partnerships across LIU and with external organizations to create opportunities for collaborative learning, research, and community outreach that promote DEI and well-being.
  2. Foster an Inclusive Campus Environment: Provide resources, programming, and support systems that ensure all students, faculty, and staff feel a deep sense of belonging and inclusion within the College.
  3. Empower Future Leaders: Cultivate a culture of mentorship and professional development, equipping students and faculty with the tools to lead and advocate for equity and inclusion in veterinary medicine and beyond.
