Transfer Admission

Veterinary students who have been enrolled in a veterinary college/school accredited by the Council on Education of the AVMA may apply for transfer to Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine

Applicants in good standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.2 at the school of origin are eligible to transfer, provided space is available and must meet admissions requirements.

Due to the unique nature of the DVM program at LIU-CVM students will only be considered for transfer into semesters 2 through 5. The applicant must submit evidence that the curriculum at the school of origin is comparable to that at LIU-CVM.

Students who have been dismissed from another veterinary school for academic or non-academic reasons are not eligible to transfer to LIU-CVM.

The number of transfer students admitted each year will be determined by the availability of space and there are no set deadlines to apply. Fully completed applications will be considered for transfers, with priority given to first applicants.

Required Application Materials

  • A letter of intent to transfer (max. 1 page)
  • A current curriculum vitae or resume
  • Official transcripts from the accredited college/school of Veterinary Medicine from which the student desires the transfer
  • A letter from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs or designee of the accredited College/School of Veterinary Medicine from which the student desires the transfer, confirming that the applicant is a student in good standing (this letter will preferably also include the applicant's class ranking.)

Application materials should be sent to: vetmed.admissions@liu.edu
