Dr Parry graduated from veterinary school at the University of Liverpool in the UK in 1997. After several years in mixed general practice, she moved to the United States to pursue residency training in anatomic pathology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and she became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) in 2004. Since then, her career has predominantly centered on academia, including serving as Chief of Pathology in the Division of Comparative Medicine at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Head of Pathology at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, and Head of Pathology at the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine in the UK.
She also founded her own consulting business, which provided diagnostic and research pathology support to researchers in academia, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology companies. And most recently, Dr Parry served as the Director of Pathology at CBSET, Inc, a preclinical translational research institute with a medical device focus in Lexington, MA.
As Director of Diagnostic Services here at the Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine, one of Dr Parry’s key missions is to ensure timely and accurate reporting of diagnostic submissions. She especially enjoys working with veterinarians from other specialty areas to facilitate this, because of the central role that pathology plays in supporting patient care. Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the diagnostic service also contributes to another key mission of teaching veterinary students and pathology trainees, by providing an important source of educational case-based materials.
Throughout her career, Dr Parry’s research collaborations have focused on studies that advance the One Health concept. These include investigations of inflammation-driven cancer (for example, by using Helicobacter species in mice as models of human infectious gastritis, hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal cancers) and zoonotic bacterial diseases. She also enjoys collaborating with other clinicians on clinical research studies.
Dr Parry is an advocate of organized veterinary medicine. She has held volunteer positions on various ACVP committees since 2005 and will serve as ACVP President-Elect in 2026. She has also been an active volunteer with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) over the past two decades, including as Chair of the AVMA’s Council on Education Selection Committee. And, in 2019, Dr Parry was awarded Fellowship by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (by Meritorious Contributions to the Profession).
