Summer Sports Camps FAQ's


What to Bring:

Food: All campers can either purchase our lunch program (information available) or bring their own lunch. Each camp will have a designated time for lunch in their program.

Drink: All campers are encouraged to bring any water/beverages that they would like to have. During the summer months, staying hydrated is crucial to the health and safety of all participants.

Clothing: Athletic gear is required for all campers. Type of shoe will depend on the type of sports, however t-shirt/shorts is recommended.

Misc: Sunscreen, proper eye protection if needed, any protective gear as recommended by the councilors.

Where to Go:

Outdoor Camps: Please report to the field designated to the sport. This will be communicated following registration.

Indoor Camps: Please report to the front of the Pratt Gymnasium or outside of the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Coaching Information:

Each camp will be lead and administrated by the coaching staff of the particular sport at LIU. All camps will be taught by the best and worked by division one athletes.  

Accommodations

Housing: There will be no overnight accommodations for the LIU athletic camps. If needed, accommodations off campus can be recommended at an offsite location.

Dining: All camps will include the option for a lunch program. Each camper is responsible for bringing their own lunch if they choose not to opt into our lunch program.


Getting Here (LIU Post Campus)

Public Transportation

BY CAR:

From New York City

Take Queens-Midtown Tunnel to Long Island Expressway (I-495). Take Exit 39 and make a left at the light (Glen Cove Road north). Go north for 2 miles; turn right (east) on Northern Boulevard (Route 25A). LIU Post is 2 miles on the right.

From Connecticut and Maine

Take I-95 south to Throgs Neck Bridge and follow directions below.

From The Bronx, Westchester and Points North

Take Throgs Neck Bridge to Clearview Expressway (I-295) south. Exit to eastbound Long Island Expressway (I-495); proceed to Exit 39 and continue as indicated above.

From Southern New Jersey and Points South

Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 13. Cross the Goethals Bridge to I-278 east (Staten Island Expressway). Cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to the Belt Parkway east. Follow the Belt Parkway to the Cross Island Parkway north (toward the Whitestone Bridge). Follow the Cross Island Parkway to Exit 30 - Long Island Expressway (I-495) east. Take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 39 and make a left at the light (Glen Cove Road north). Go north for 2 miles; turn right (east) on Northern Boulevard (Route 25A). LIU Post is 2 miles on the right.

From Northern New Jersey

Take the George Washington Bridge east to the Cross Bronx Expressway. Cross the Throgs Neck Bridge then follow directions given from The Bronx, Westchester and Points North.

From Eastern Long Island

Take Long Island Expressway (I-495) to Exit 41N (Route 107). Turn right (north) onto 107 north. Proceed to Northern Boulevard (Route 25A). Turn left (west) at Northern Boulevard. LIU Post is on the left.

From South Shore of Long Island

In Nassau County, take Wantagh State Parkway or Meadowbrook Parkway north to Northern State Parkway West to Exit 31 (Glen Cove Road North). At light, turn left (north) on Glen Cove Road. Proceed for 3 miles to Northern Boulevard (Route 25A), turn right (east). LIU Post is 2 miles on the right. In Suffolk County, take most convenient north-south road to the Long Island Expressway (I-495) and follow directions given from Eastern Long Island.

BY RAILROAD: (Long Island Rail Road)

From Pennsylvania Station, take either the Long Island Rail Road's (LIRR) Port Jefferson train line to the Hicksville station, or the Port Washington-Manhasset line to the Great Neck or Manhasset station, or the Oyster Bay line to the Greenvale station. All of these stations, except Greenvale, have bus service to LIU Post (see below for bus information). Contact the LIRR at 516-822-5477 or visit their Web site at: mta.info/lirr/ for more information regarding train and bus schedules. Taxi service is available from all of these train stations. See Taxi Service below for further information.

BY TAXI: Taxi service is available from the Greenvale, Hicksville, Great Neck and Manhasset train stations. Call All Island Taxi prior to your arrival at 516-486-6666 or Arena Taxi at 516-671-1848 for information regarding service and rates. Call Oyster Rides Taxi at 516-922-2222 for information regarding service and rates from the Hicksville train station.

BY BUS: LIU Post is serviced by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Long Island Bus N20. The N20 connects to the New York City subway system (#7 line), several Long Island Rail Road stations, and other buses serving Nassau, Suffolk and Queens. Contact the MTA as 516-228-4000 or on the Web at: www.mta.info/libus/index.html.

BY CAMPUS VAN SERVICE: LIU Post provides free transportation to the Campus from the Hicksville train station during the Fall and Spring semesters only. The LIU Post Campus van, which is clearly marked, makes round-trip stops at the train station to pick up/drop off LIU Post students and visitors. Weekend and summer schedules vary. For a complete schedule contact the Hillwood Information Desk at 516-299-2611.

BY AMTRAK: LIU Post is accessible through Amtrak, which goes directly into Pennsylvania Station in New York City. From Pennsylvania Station see directions above. Contact Amtrak at 800-USA-RAIL or on the Web at www.amtrak.com/.

BY PLANE: Nearest airports to LIU Post are John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), (40 minutes from LIU Post); LaGuardia Airport (LGA), (35 minutes from LIU Post); and Islip-MacArthur, (ISP) (50 minutes from LIU Post).

By Subway: 
The LIU Brooklyn campus is served by all major subway lines. IRT: 4 or 5 train (Lexington Avenue Line) or 2 or 3 train (Seventh Avenue Line) to Nevins Street Station; BMT: B, Q, or R train to DeKalb Avenue Station; IND: A, C, or G train (Eighth Avenue Line) to Hoyt Schermerhorn Street Station. By Railroad: (Long Island Railroad)
The Flatbush Avenue terminal of the Long Island Rail Road is 4 blocks from the Campus. For railroad information visit: http://mta.info/lirr.

By Bus:  
The LIU Brooklyn campus is accessible by MTA bus lines B25, B26, B38, B41, B52, B54 and B67. For bus information, visit: http://www.mta.info/nyct/service/bus/bklnsch.htm.

By Plane:
Nearest airports to the LIU Brooklyn campus are John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Bus, taxi and limousine service are available at all airports. Connecting train service is available at Newark Liberty. The AirTrain is available to and from JFK Airport with connections to the LIRR Flatbush Avenue terminal, which is located 4 blocks from the Campus. By Car: (Parking is available on DeKalb and on Flatbush Avenues)

From Manhattan 
Via Manhattan Bridge
Proceed along Flatbush Avenue Extension, turn left on Myrtle Avenue, right on Ashland Place and proceed 2 blocks to DeKalb Avenue and turn right. The campus is on your right at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues.

Via Brooklyn Bridge 
Proceed along Adams Street, make left turn onto Tillary Street and keep right; after crossing Flatbush Avenue Extension bear right onto Navy Street, which becomes Ashland Place; proceed 2 blocks and turn right on DeKalb Avenue. The campus is on your right at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues.

From Queens 
Take the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (west) to Tillary Street Exit. Keep right on Tillary Street. Follow Tillary Street to Flatbush Avenue and make a left, then a left on Myrtle Avenue and a right on Ashland Place. Proceed 2 blocks and turn right on DeKalb Avenue. The campus is on your right at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues.

From Staten Island or Brooklyn 
Take the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (east) to Cadman Plaza West. Follow Cadman Plaza West to Tillary Street. Bear right on Tillary Street and keep right, crossing Flatbush Avenue Extension and bearing right onto Navy Street, which becomes Ashland Place. Proceed to DeKalb Avenue and turn right. The campus is on your right at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues.

To return to Manhattan via the Manhattan Bridge 
Proceed on DeKalb Avenue and turn right on Flatbush Avenue to the Manhattan Bridge.  
- via the Brooklyn Bridge, proceed on DeKalb Avenue, turn right on Flatbush Avenue then left on Tillary Street. The entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge will be on your right.

To return to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Queens-bound 
Take Flatbush Avenue to Tillary Street. Turn right on Tillary Street and then stay to the left. Enter Ramp for Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

To return to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Brooklyn- or Staten Island-bound 
Take Flatbush Avenue to Tillary Street. Turn Left on Tillary Street to Cadman Plaza West. Make a right turn on Cadman Plaza West. Bear left to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
