What is the Summer Honors College?

The Summer Honors College at Long Island University is a one-week intensive college-level course in various academic disciplines. All courses offer immersive learning experiences that accelerate exceptional students.

Who is eligible to participate in the Summer Honors College?

The program is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and a passion for growth. Students must be 16 years of age by the start of the program to enroll.

When is the Summer Honors College?

The Summer Honors College is Monday, July 14–Friday, July 18, 2025. Classes are 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily.

Which LIU campus is the Summer Honors College located?

The program is hosted at the Long Island University—Post Campus, a sprawling 350+ acre campus located on Long Island's historic gold coast in Brookville, NY.

How many classes can I take during the Summer Honors College?

Due to the rigor of the program, students are limited to one (1) course during the Summer Honors College.

What will my daily schedule be during the Summer Honors College?

Classes are 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily. Breaks in academic programming are scheduled daily at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Daily evening activities are available beginning at 7:00 p.m. for students residing on campus throughout the program. Residential students are required to be in their residence hall beginning at 10:00 p.m. Residential students must be in their assigned room at midnight for final curfew conducted by professional and student staff.

How do I earn college credit for completing the course?

Students may earn three (3) college credits for completing their course by selecting the $500 for-credit fee at registration.

Is there a Summer Honors College Orientation?

Yes, participating students are required to attend an orientation session at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, discussing expectations of the academic program, University policies, and more.

How do meals work throughout the Summer Honors College?

Students will have the option to enroll in a meal plan for an additional fee throughout the duration of the Summer Honors College. Additional details regarding the meal plan will be provided soon.

I will be commuting between home and campus during the program. How does daily arrival and dismissal work?

Students commuting between home and campus are required to check-in and check-out with professional staff each day at 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

I require on-campus housing during the program. What kind of housing is available?

On-campus housing is available throughout the Summer Honors College. Residential students will be assigned to a temperature-controlled double room with one (1) roommate. Students may request a preferred roommate with the Summer Honors College team.

What is the cost of on-campus housing during the Summer Honors College?

For campus housing, please select the $200 activity fee at registration.

I will be living on campus during the Summer Honors College. When can I check in to my room?

Check-in for residential students is Sunday, July 13, 2025. Please arrive between 12:00–4:00 p.m. Please alert the Summer Honors College team if an earlier check-in time is needed and we will do our best to accommodate. There will be a community barbecue for students and their families from 4:00–6:00 p.m., followed by a brief orientation session for students.

What items should I bring with me as a resident student during the Summer Honors College?

Students opting for campus housing will be provided with a What-to-Bring list prior to check-in. For more information, please visit our Residence Life resources webpage to review prohibited items.

What kind of supervision is provided in the residence halls?

The residence halls are staffed with security guards overnight, as well as a live-in professional staff member and LIU student leaders/Resident Assistants who are available to help. The Department of Public Safety is operational 24/7/365 and its officers complete regular, hourly rounds of each residence hall. Note: guests are prohibited throughout the program.

What evening activities and entertainment are available during the Summer Honors College?

A complete schedule of the week's evening activities will be provided to students at orientation. Possible activities may include movie and game nights, karaoke, etc. The activities are not mandatory but highly encouraged to help build community and belonging.

How much independence do students have outside of scheduled activities?

While students cannot leave campus at any point during the program, they are encouraged to explore campus and will have access to the student union, library, campus fitness centers, and the gymnasium. Residential students are expected to remain in their residence hall beginning at 10:00 p.m. for an initial headcount, and then a final headcount in their assigned room at midnight.
